We know this is a well loved school and part of Torry’s heritage. In recent years the pupil population has decreased and the Council is using this as its argument for closure. If the Council can prove that the school is operating at less than 60% capacity, then it can close the school without referring it to a Minister in the Scottish government.
However, we suspect that the Council has deliberately suppressed pupil numbers and have heard reports that up to thirty pupils have been refused entry over the past year. We are also aware that because of the continued speculation about the school’s future, some parents have opted to send their child to another school to avoid disruption to their education should the school close.
We also don’t think the Council have taken into account proposals to reduce class sizes and the planned regeneration of Old Torry.
That is why we are asking you to complete and return this questionnaire.
Even if you do not have a child at Victoria Road School or of school age, your views are still very welcome.
